Your payment comppany (eg. your insurance company, etc) must have a way to do this. Each company has their own website and their own way. Consult your company to find out how to pay online.

a. a traditional analog/digital modem.

b. to connect the line directly to the Ethernet card in your computer.

c. a router.

d. a device referred to as a ‘digital’ modem.

For this question, probably D. But the test writer is an idiot.

Is your line manager allowed to access your Emails at work?

Posted on September 26th, 2009 by admin in access on line | 6 Comments »

also if your account is locked and you don’t know your account details what information would local IT support need to verify who you are so they can unlock your account? Also can your line manager make a request to IT support to unlock your email account?

Except for e-mails to/from your psychologist/psychiatrist and/or lawyer, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy in the workplace.

I want to listen to internet radio while at work; however the IT dept. won’t allow on-line access via computer

Posted on September 26th, 2009 by admin in on-line access | 3 Comments »

The reason this is not allowed is due to concerns about use of bandwith. How can I set up and listen to internet radio under the radar of these IM tyrants?

Sorry to tell you this, but there’s absolutely NO WAY to get around the IT department’s proxy servers (the "gatekeepers" of the network) as they’ll prevent access to the ports required for streaming AV streams.

The only place that you MAY sneak by the IT department temporarily (as the IT department will eventually catch onto it) would be Pandora ( http://www.pandora.com ) as it streams its audio through Flash.

Even if you take the lowest possible bitrate for broadcasting (24 KBps), here’s how the math would come out:

24 KBps * 3600 sec/hr * 8 hrs = 691,200 KB (691.2 MB) / workday

691.2 MB / workday * 7 days/wk = 4838.4 MB (4.8384 GB) / wk

4.8384 GB / wk * 4 weeks / mo = 19.3536 / mo.

Considering Bandwidth costs $2/GB/mo (high-end), it would cost $38.71 / mo in Bandwidth. You also need to be aware that streaming audio & video constantly requires the a chunk of available bandwidth to use. If your download bandwidth is 700 KBps & the stream you’re listen/viewing is 100 KBps, that leaves 600 KBps for everybody on the same connection.

If you multiply the bandwidth requirements over multiple users, it will eventually squeeze the available bandwidth & slow down the speed of others. For example, if you have 10 users on 700 KBps connection & 5 of them are viewing/listening to a 96 KBps audio/video stream. That leaves only 200 KBps available for the other activities. So if everybody is downloading a file at the same time while the streams are active, the downloading speed on that file would average around 20 KBps instead of around 70 KBps.

I know that my examples are in a Micro-network (10 users or less), but in a large-scale network… this could spell massive problems, especially if somebody is telecommuting as their upload speed is affected by the download speed of the server/network they’re connecting to.

Why don’t you burn an CD full of MP3’s (or an audio format you prefer) & play music off of that?

Can’t connect to the internet using modem because phone requires dial zero to access outside line.?

Posted on September 24th, 2009 by admin in access on line | 1 Comment »

My broadband is down at the moment and I want to access the internet at home. Unfortunately, my telephone needs zero to be dialed before I can access an outside line.

I tried putting zero before the telephone number of the prepaid ISP, but it did not work. I guess the zero does not bite because the modem dials so fast.

How do I fix this?

You need to set it to dial 0, pause, then dial the number. Some dailers have a setting to dial a number (usually 9) to get an outside line. This feature usually puts a pause it. If that still doesn’t work, most dialers will recognize a comma as a pause, simply put a comma or two after the zero in the number string.

can I get free access to public records on line?

Posted on September 24th, 2009 by admin in on-line access | 1 Comment »

Can I really get totally free access to public records on line? Each time I try a sight that says FREE.. there is a hidden fee!!!

Even if a record is public, there is no requirement to provide it for free. They are allowed to charge an fee to offset administrative costs. That fee will most likely be more online.
