I want to get rid of my home phone because I only use my cell -the only reason I still have it is for internet access. I have called several cable companies and they all tell me I have to have a hard line in order to get the internet.

   That would only be for DSL, it wont apply if you are getting a cable modem. I have Comcast internet and cable modem and have no home phone, just a cell.

   Huh ? Cable companys don’t use a phone line for the internet ! They use the cable you get cable TV with. Comcast has it forabout $50…

   the cable tv company in your area. most of them also have cable internet. But most are expensive … I was paying $49.95 for roadrunner, my verizon/yahoo DSL is $14.95

   But you can probably get a "new customer" offer for a while
