How can you get Internet access with only a phone line?

Posted on August 7th, 2009 by admin in access on line | 5 Comments »

I’m going on vacation this summer and where I’m going, they don’t have wi-fi or another computer at the house and I was wondering if I could use my phone line to gain internet access on my laptop.

Contact your Internet Service Provider and ask them if they have a listing of dial-up phone numbers around the country. Normally, if you’ve been using broadband, then your out of luck. If you’ve got a dial-up account already then you’ve got a chance of other dial-up phone numbers in other locations. Best of luck.

Using an analogue modem will get you a basic connection, but very slow.

To answer your question – yes you can access the internet through a phone line, like AOL and others. If your phone company offers DSL that would be a better thing. It is much faster than a regular phone connection. If you have wi-fi sometimes you can get lucky and surf off someone else’s connection.
